Susan Luker is a Devon based ceramic artist creating hand built pots using slabs of white grogged clay (grogged means it has been fired previously and then ground up).
In her most recent work Susan uses the flat platform of the pot as a canvas to paint on and convey her feelings and interpretation of the environment where she lives.
Susan spends a lot of time initially sketching ideas for her pieces. She paints with clay slips and engobes (a form of liquid clay) and a variety of glazes in multiple layers and firings.
I have a collection of Susan’s latest work in the gallery, and some of these pieces are available to buy in my online shop.
