Fiona studied BA (Hons) in three dimensional design (ceramics) at Central St. Martins in London. Some years later she re-visited her studies, and competed an MA in Making and Archiving at the University of the West of England, Bristol. This changed her making process enormously though it was not until 2012 that she was able to set up a dedicated ceramic studio in Ilfracombe, North Devon. She now works full time and supplies galleries throughout the UK.
Each of her pieces is hand built using earthenware clays. Clay is a hard material to master and this often leads to unexpected chance happenings. Pieces are finished with a range of glazes which are often layered to create depth and texture.
Fiona wants to capture humour in each of her pieces and combines reality with fiction, folk tales and fantasy.
I have a range of Fiona’s pieces in the gallery including sardines in a tin, herring boats and fishing trawlers, and some of these are available to purchase by mail order in my online shop.
